One of my assignments in Design Development is to create an ad for our business campaign. Since I am doing mine on a theatre company, I have created ads for an upcoming play. The play I choose is call Agnes of God by John Pielmeier. It’s sort of a crime thriller, in which a psychiatrist needs to analyze whether this young novice, named Agnes, is guilty for killing her newborn child. A child she doesn’t remember having in the first place. Very light hearted and fun. *sarcasm*
So what I wanted to create was a simple black and white piece. I have a white beaded rosary that I had purchased while I was on a trip to Vatican City. So I wanted to take a photo of this and use it as part of my design. The only problem is that I wasn’t entirely sure how to best take the picture. Unfortuntely, I won’t be able to take the photography class here at Southeast Tech until next semester. Luckily, one of my classmates had taken the class and he helped me set up the camera to take the picture. Everything was ready and then we had to go to our next class. The pictures would have to wait. I thought I could just take them after class. I was sure that I could do it. Just point and click. While I got pictures, they weren’t very good. And of course I didn’t know this until afterwards.
After talking with Tony, my professor for Design Development, he understood that while my picture wasn’t good quality, he could understand that part of it is because I haven’t had the expertise to do it. So while my assignment is turned in, I now have the pictures, thanks to my professor Rick, that I can use to improve the ads.
Lesson: while I may have a good idea for a design, it won’t turn out until I find the help I need if I can’t get it done properly myself.
