Starting a project and it leads to…

One of my first projects during my internship was designing the cover for this years graduation invitationsĀ and programs. I came up with several ideas, drew them out, and presented them to Caroline, my advisor. I then got to my program and made up a couple different examples since she was able to find some photos that I had in mind from the previous year. So I create a few examples, and then it got narrowed down to one idea. This was an image of a graduation degree set against a long stack of them. When I graduated from Concordia College, getting handed that folder made it real that I was graduating.

So I gathered up all the items for a first proof and Caroline, my advisor, sent it off. She then got an email back saying that they thought the plan was just to use the one from last year. I was slightly disappointed but at the same time, Caroline warned me of this. She said that sometimes I’ll start a project but because of a time crunch, she might take it. Or things just change. I know being denied a project isn’t always going to be because my design is bad. Sometimes it’s just not what the client was looking for. Or what they thought the plan was going to be.

Either way, it was a good lesson to learn anyway. I still learned a few trick in photoshop from Caroline and realized what i can do with that.
