Sound check

We recently had a video shoot with Chantel, our client for the class video project. The only problem? The sound got funky somehow. When I had the headset on to listen to Chantel and watch through the camera everything sounded fine. A few clinks and clanks because of jewelry but that was only once and we had a reshoot afterwards of what she had just said. What came out though was a low rustling sound during the interview. It sounds like wind outside or someone breathing heavily. The strange thing was that sound didn’t appear while we where recording. One of my classmates can attest to that fact!

The next class period we tested why this might have happened. The mic we were using to pick up sound had a kink in the wire because someone slammed a lid onto it while it was hanging out. This had happened a while ago but it still affected the sound. Why we couldn’t hear the day of the interview I don’t know. Maybe because we were close to it, the sound of talking drowned it out.

I did learn a lesson though. I think in the future we need to do some test shots the day of an interview with a client. While we had tested previous days and heard nothing, sometimes things change in between. We could do a simple 1 2 3 test and while it is being checked, we could go over the questions and the interview process with the person there. Hindsight is 20/20 but it’s still a good lesson to learn. We found the problem and fixed it. Luckily Chantel didn’t mind having to come back in and reshoot which is a blessing in itself.
