Today in my printing class, I had a great lesson on creep and basic impo review. During my second year, we have an assignment to create an article for a magazine. For this we are in charge of pretty much everything. I will write my article once I have interviewed a person (that’ll be for a later blog! Watch out for that one!). I have also already designed the layout for the article. In print class today we began making plans for the impo and how we will place it all together.
The impo is always fun for me because I have to think critically on how it will work together. I can’t simply place the pages in numerical order otherwise it’ll be all wrong. Making a dummy for it is helpful in visualizing how they should be order. For this magazine, we figured out the order each article will be placed and then created a rough sketch of a bird’s eye view of the final magazine. This helped me to realize what was beside what. For example the info about our Media program will be on the same page as the back inside cover.
When we organized everything, I discovered my article would be in the middle. While I thought I wouldn’t have to worry about any creep in the middle, in the end I have to worry about the worse creep of all. Since mine will be in the middle, I’ll have to worry about the outer edges being cut off. Luckily, we don’t have many pages in this magazine but I still have to go back and tweak my design to account for the extra that will be cut off. Plus I have a photo planned for an outer corner. I can’t have my main person cut in half.
