For the holidays, our Layout and Printing class were to create a card that the Scholarship Foundation here at Southeast Tech could send to its donors. This year, we created a type of card that folds up into an envelope type style. But before that, we were all to create an idea for the card. We weren’t suppose to make the card, only to express what it would look like. That gave us more time to spend on other homework. Yet we also had to express our idea without having gone all out for it. While mine wasn’t chosen, it was still a good experience.
In preparation for the card, we took pictures of various ornaments that were going to go on the cover and inside. While we were excited to have the opportunity to use photographs in our card, out client wanted illustrations. Sometimes, we don’t always get to pick what we create and this was a good example of that.
Once it was made, then came to finally print them out. We printed on tabloid sized paper that had to be fed into our printer. The hardest part was trying to figure out how to cut the top which came to a triangle point. Usually when we use the cutter, we place the part that we keep inside the cutter but this time it had to stay out. The reason for this is because there is a guide in the back that usually keeps the paper even but since we were cutting at an angle, the guide wouldn’t be helpful.
Once it was scored and folded, looking over the cards was very important. Sometimes we had to trim the cards to keep it even. But overall it was a good experience.
