Making a video

In my New Media Development class we have a very exciting class project. Someone asked our professor if he would be willing to do some video work for an awareness campaign and he agreed! So as a class project, we are going to be interviewing and recording people!

We recently had a meeting with her about the project and had to come prepared with some questions. Luckily we weren’t left wondering what questions to ask and was given a sheet of possible ideas. These included questions like, “What is the point of the video?” or “What is the call to action for viewers?” One of the most important questions was what the feel of the video should be. Serious? Funny? Combo of both? Our client recently wrote a book on her experience when her husband was deployed overseas in the military. So her goal was to create a video to bring awareness on what military families go through (without taking away the importance of what their soldiers go through). Obviously, this is going to be a more serious type of video then.

While asking these questions, I showed a lot of enthusiasm in learning what Chantel, our client, wanted from the video. I don’t want to sound like I’m bragging but because I showed this interest, it seemed like Chantel was more at ease with telling us her plans of the project. Even though I don’t have personal experience with what she went through, having empathy and excitement for what she said made her excited for the project.

I’m excited about making this video with my class and learning some new things.
